Compelling Photographs in Mundane Locations.

There’s been lots going on over the past few weeks, including holidays, furniture building and having a new bathroom fitted. This has meant that time for photograph has been limited. The weather has improved over the past few weeks, and that meant that dog walks have been easier, in the sense that things aren’t too muddy and we can just go out. Most of the time I go out walking Charlie I take a camera with me, and this weekend that was the same.

What I’ve tried to do with this set of images is to make a compelling set of images from just whatever we find locally. I think this will be a recurring theme for the coming few months, along with images from some locations I have wanted to visit for a good while. So a mixture of mundane locations, and more scenic places will be the focus of the coming months photrography. These images are all taken on my Leica Q3, all hand held.

The intention of this image is to give the illusion that I am in a wild flower location, maybe with buttercups growing, to give the sense of being in the middle of this lovely wild set of flowers. Of course im not in the middle of a huge wild flower area, I am in reality low down, maybe a few inches from the ground. This gives the sense of being in the middle of the wild flowers. This is actually at the edge of a football pitch next to the local park near Tracey’s new house.

Regular readers will know that I do like a good dry stone wall. I spotted this wall a few weeks ago, and was taken by how it appears to have a big depression in the wall. How this hasn’t fallen down yet I have no idea. The story I’m trying to tell here is how this wall hasn’t fallen down, but still providing the function of the wall when it was originally intended. The leading lines from the wall and the path all helps but the subject is definitely the depression in the wall. I think having some nice light on the wall would add hugely to this image, but thats maybe for a visit here soon.

The wall on the left of this image is the wall that is the subject of the previous image. This gives you na sense of place, and this is one of the staple walks that we take Charlie on, long enough for him but not too far when time is of the essence. What struck me as we walked was the blossom on the trees, and I liked the way that the two trees in this image take your eye through the image along with the path and the wall. Very flat light and again this would be improved by some warmer nice light.

Literally 20 yards further up the path I saw this scene. The original image is a lot wider than this version, which is effectively a huge crop. My intention with the image was to try to show the Peel Tower on Holcombe Moor, but the wide nature of the original image, the tower gets lost in the distance. This crop does bring the twitter more into the image but the blossom bush on the right is a little over powering.

This last image is really a bit of fun really. The sign on the gate made me smile. How can sheep close the gate!!!

You can get a compelling image locally and I will continue to look around Edenfield where Tracey now lives and find more mundane location images that are actually compelling.
