The weather has been terrible this past few days, I think this is because Storm Kieran swept across the country, I could be wrong. Anyway I’m on dog sitting duties again today and needed to get out and give Charlie a walk. I also wanted to test out my new purchase, my first prime lens, which is the Sony 40mm f2.5 G lens. It’s a compact lens and is great for when walking without all the heavy gear. So this morning was its debut.
It’s fair to say that it’s very different than a zoom lens, as you can change the focal length without moving your position. I have done lots of research and ideally wanted to buy a 35mm lens, but the best of the bunch, the Sony G Master is really expensive and very heavy, and sort of defeats the object of walking around gear. Yes this is f 2.5 but I very rarely use really shallow depth of field and the f2.5 will give me enough blur in the background for my images.
What follows are 6 of the images from my walk, I took 36 in total but there are lots of slightly different versions, I have to say I like these images.

From a coaching perspective Chris has been saying that we have to work with the locations and therefore scenes that we have, it cant all be grand vistas in the Lake District etc. every time. To that end the last image here is what I will be posting to the coaching website. Each week we all post a tracker which includes the image of the week that we have taken. This is a simple scene, most definitely local, but is an effective image in my view. The stone wall leads the eye through the image, onto the trees and then onto the wind turbine farm off in the distance. These are a recurring theme in my photography recently as there are lots of them ion this neck of the woods.
he new lens works really well with my Sony Alpha 7IV, which whilst not the smallest Sony full frame camera is small enough and fitted with compact lenses like the 40mm f2.5G lens then it does fit the bill for what I want for my walk around kit.
