Urban Landscapes on a Dreary Day

This months OneLandscape project is Urban Landscapes and you will have seen fro earlier posts that I have already got some good images to enter into this challenge. I decided this weekend that I would look to try to find some less City Urban Landscapes, and decided to head to Helmshore and Holcombe Village on Monday morning. It was a dream old morning, and for that matter, the rest of the day. Undeterred I set off with the hope of getting some images of the mill that is the home of the Textile Museum.

After a wander around the mill and surrounding areas I decided to head to Holcombe Village to try to capture the Emmanuel Church, in the context of the rest of the village. The next stop on the journey was into rams bottom, to do some shopping. As I started down the road that leads into Stubbins I saw a big vista bathed in the smoke from the factory in Stubbins. Thankfully I was able to park on the road and get a few images of the grand vista.

This image is taken from the back side of the mill (museum), Im stood on what I can only imagine is an old railway line that has been converted into a walk way. There were lots of folk out with their dogs and kids walking, surprised me really given how dreary it was. The intention behind this image was to get a layered effect. The various rooftops are at differing hieghts, but all lead the way through to the wider landscape beyond. It would have been better if there had been some better light either on the rooftops or the hill in the distance. I think the hill is Tor Hill or High Moss, which is below a leaden sky. I like the composition, I think, but some better light would add to the effect.

This range was taken from the roadside looking down on the Stubbins Paper Mill. I was taken by the steam coming top from the mill. This is a big crop from a wider vista image, it’s a bit misty and murky, nut I guess it is an Urban Landscape if ever there was one.

I have walked around this church on numerous occasions and taken a number of different images of the church and the surroundings. I think there is a lot of depth to this image, the road and the wall see to that along with the buildings on the left. I do like the gate in the foreground it’s a little more ornate than the usual gate to a field. Of course what caught my eye first was the framing of the spire by the trees. I really like this image.
