Turbines and Stiles

This weekend was the first chance I’ve had for a few weeks to get out with my camera. I had it in my head that I wanted to explore Knowl Hill and take some more images of the wind turbines and stiles I discovered the last trip up onto Knowl Hill. This time it was just me and my full kit.

I decided to take a slightly different route this time and I’m glad I did as I came across another stile, and this image is the new stile I discovered.

Whilst not fitting in with the new project I do like the image above, a lovely stone wall, a stile and a small brook. The moody sky just adds to the image in my view.

Once I had finished with this image I set off upwards onto Knowl Hill in search of the original stile, and look at the various compositions I could work with the stile and the wind turbines.

I do like a stone wall as well as a stile, and as I walked upwards towards the stile I spotted what I can only assume is a gate with one of the old posts left standing. I think this image works, the tripod was really low to the ground, and the camera was pointed upwards towards the turbine. The angry skies again add to this image.

I took quite a few differing compositions of the stile and turbine, but the above image is my favourite from this section of the shoot. It crossed my mind that taking a shot through the cross members of the stile might produce a good image. The use of f2.8 really helps with this image, as the turbine is in focus and the foreground is blurry. I really like this, maybe next shoot I’ll make sure the turbines to the right are not in shot, a more zoomed in focal length could help with that.

All these images were taken on my Sony A7iv, with the 24 to 70 f2.8 GM lens.
