It’s no fun being stuck in an office when its over 30 degrees outside, especially where there is no air conditioning. Well my house is my office these days and i don’t have air conditioning thats for sure! I was keen, however, to not let the good weather pass without trying to get out with my camera. It was just a matter of which evening I could get out, as work continues to be busy, and having a decorator in the house means i had to pick my evening. So Thursday evening after work, off i went into the Peak District. I headed for Calver as i wanted to try to get a couple of sunset shots of Curber Edge.
The images that follow are the results of a lovely few hours on Thursday night. I continue to be surprised how lovely folk are who i meet whilst out and about, and this night was no exception, i even gained an Instagram follower!
The gorgeous light adds so much to this image. The heather is also very much in bloom although as i walked through it looking for alternative compositions, it was very dusty. This is absolutely to be expected as the good weather makes the ground bone dry. I really like this composition, although the cars on the road are a bit of a pain but they were there so i guess i cant complain too much. Regular readers will know i love the millstones dotted across the peaks, and this one is no exception. This is on the very edge of Baslow Edge, and as you can see is bathed in the late evening sunshine. This composition does need some work, but I was joined in this location by a family with a dog, who also wanted to savour the cracking views and bask in the lovely late evening sun. This is a view of Curber Edge, and i decided to see if this would work in a 1 by 1 crop with my longer lens on. This is at 130mm on my Tamron f2.8 70 to 180mm lens. If you look closely you can see folk walking across the edge, and if you look extra close you can see two people sat on what i think must be portable chairs. I do think this works as an image and may well end up as part of my 3 by 3 project. This was the last image i took on Thursday. What i had in my mind was taking a silhouette image. The orange sky behind Curber Edge I thought might look good. This is also in 1 by 1 crop and at 135mm. I’ve edited this image so you can still see a little bit of detail in the foreground and mid ground. On the whole i do like this image as you can clearly see the outline of the folks walking on the edge.
