On Sunday we decided we wanted to have a walk somewhere at little further away from home, that we, together, hadn’t done before. The seaside was the first decision, the second one wasn’t so easy. Most of the coastal places with decent promenades we have walked before. A quick google search showed that New Brighton has the longest promenade in England, and we definitely hadn’t collectively been here before. So we decided to go for a walk. I knew there is the lighthouse so it was somewhere that I may be able to get some images. So it proved.
These images are all taken with my Leica Q3, hand held, which was some feat without gloves as it was sooooooo cold.ow i’m not going to complain about the Q3 it is a marvellous camera, but it is small in the hand and wearing gloves just makes the process harder. Who says I don’t suffer for my art!!!

The collection of 3 benches together, runs all along the promenade here at New Brighton. They are memorial benches and I think are great for relatives of friends to have somewhere to go and ponder, reminisce or just rest there weary bones. What struck me was the simplicity of the scene and how it might work as an image in the negative space challenge in the OneLandscape group. I really like this image and if I dont get anything better this will be my submission for the challenge in due course.

Since the tide was out, I wanted to try to get some images of the Lighthouse within its wider context as well as just it by itself. There is a walkway that connects the promenade to the Fort Perch Rock area. The benches are every 50 yards or so but it struck me that this particular bench had a view, the lighthouse and the docks in the distance. The moody nature of the weather adds to the feel of the image.

When the tide is out you can walk right up the lighthouse, and in fact I have shot images from the beach before. There is also odd shaped sea defences which also make for a good image, but alas these are submerged on this image. What you can see is the section of the sea fence that runs off the beach. This is on the corner of the Fort Perch Rock building. Whilst not being the most inspiring of images I do like the simplicity and the mood.

This is my attempt at trying to add some scale to the image, the lighthouse does have two ships behind it, along way out to sea, they would dwarf it if they were nearer. Of course Tracey standing and striking a pose also adds some scale to this image.

I’m less sure about this image but I do think there is something about the positioning of both the Lighthouse and the Fort Perch Rock. In reality the Lighthouse is way higher than the fort but there is something about the juxtaposition that appeals.
