This week I spent my photography time looking to get a few more images that would fit into the Industrial Heritage challenge. That is the monthly challenge set within the Chris Sale coaching work. These two images are images I took that I feel fit the brief of that challenge. Quite whether they are the actual image I submit is a different thing.
Cheesden Old Mill

The image here is of the remains of the Mill at Cheesden, this location can be found in the Cheesden Valley, between Buckhurst Farm and the Owd Betts pub. I parked in the lay-by opposite the Owd Betts pub and walked down through the valley. The brook that runs through the valley bottom can be seen in the bottom right of this image and back in the day would have powered a wheel or turbine to provide some sort of power to the mill. he mill was built in 1786, and was used over the years to perform all aspects of the textile industry. There were approximately 20 mills in the valley but this is the only one left with any form of remains. The all closed down over the years due to changes in the textile and industry and the need to build the Ashworth Moor Reservoir that dominates this area. This surely represents a good bit of Industrial Heritage.
Stockport Hat Museum

The Stockport area was famous for its Mills and the manufacture of textiles. The main focus was on silk production and this lead to the development of the Hat industry and Stockport became a centre for hat making. As you can see from this image there is a hat museum, and this is located in one of the old mills still standing in and around the town centre. The museum is within the Wellington Mill along with other arts and crafts exhibitions. This image was taken around 8.45pm when the sun had set and there was a blue tinge to the sky , which are reflected in the image above. There is a lot of building work going on in Stockport Town Centre and the new generation of industries unfold. I quite liked the old and the new sense to this image with the chimney and the scaffolding of the new build hotel around it.
