Manchester Urban Landscape Photography

I’ve not had much chance to get out this weekend, having worked on Friday and then football on Saturday. We also had a visit to see my son’s new puppy on Sunday, so I decided to go out on Monday to have a last shoot to try to get an image for the Urban Photography challenge. These images are the best of the shoot from this morning in the less well known parts of Manchester city centre.

All these images were taken with my Leica Q3 and are handheld, with some editing in Lightroom.

As I came out of Victoria station, having taken the tram from Bury, I headed left and spotted this new high rise building. You can just see the rook of Victoria station in the bottom left corner. There is some nice light on this building and some a bit of a brooding sky.

As I sat on the tram travelling into Manchester I had this building in my head as the one I wanted to shoot, and I was heading this way. I think its a Co=-operative building and I think this is where Danny, a friend through watching City works.I quite like the reflection and the nice light in this image as well as the 3 circular objects in the bottom left of this image.

Having shot the Co-operative building I went round the back of the building and came across a small park, and I did take a few images that didn’t quite make the cut for this blog, but as I walked down the steps out of the park I saw this image. I like the road, the bridge and the under construction building. There isn’t any light in this image but I do like the composition. This will be one for the future when there is better light.

This image is of one of the entrance / exits of the AO arena (MEN Arena for those of a certain age). All morning I have been looking at lots of glass and lots of reflections. This is not a perfect composition by any means but it does show what can be achieved, again one for the future.

This is my favourite image from the mornings shoot, I like the leading lines of the bridge, road and the concrete blocks, they all lead the eye through to the building in the centre. The reflection of the buildings which are effectively behind me, and the sky I think look really good. The sky I think also adds to the feel of the image. I really like this. It was a hard choice but one of the Castlefield and Canal shots got the nod to be my entrant for the challenge but I really do like this set of images.
