Keeping Things Local

It’s not always possible to be able to explore new locations all the time. This can be a combination of things, time, other things to do, family. Whatever the reason I still try to get out with my camera on a regular basis. This past weekend I took my Fuji XT-5 with me on a coupe of walks along with Tracey and Charlie. Now I’m not suggesting that these images are portfolio worthy but I did try to capture something a little bit different in very familiar locations. So local walks around Buckhurst and Burrs Country Park. I also spent a short time walking the River Mersey (My project location) scouting for scenes, and I managed to capture some crazy clouds.

This was Friday morning, and I had a couple of hours spare, so I had a wander along the section of the River Mersey that is subject to this years project in search of new things to photograph. I didn’t find anything particularly new but I did spy these ominous black clouds , I love clouds and big skies.

Buckhurst walk – in complete contrast to the previous day the walk around Buckhurst was bathed in gorgeous sunshine and blue skies. I did have half an idea to reprise a couple of images I took a few weeks ago with the higher resolution that the XT-5 has but I didn’t like the results of those. It was a complete fluke that I spotted this image, a car drove along the lane and I had to get Charlie close to the fence. Once secured near the fence I looked up and spotted the wind turbine framed in the branches of a tree. The tree also had some nice light on it as well. Not the best but definitely not the worst image.

Burrs Country Park – his is the weir on the River Irwell. I’ve had quite a few attempts at trying to capture an image in this location but have never really been happy with what I’ve captured. All along this section of the river large trees have fallen down and are either in the water or very nearly. Not sure if this tree was placed there or whether Mother Nature had a hand but I think the tree adds a little something to the scene.till not 100% happy as there is no light at all to speak of.

Burrs Country Park – this is on the path that follows the river, and I was quite taken with the flu mp of light through the trees at the top and then as my eye came further down the stairs, the winding nature of staircase I thought added something to the scene. I managed to capture Tracey half way up the stairs to add a little human something to the scene, and with a little vignette added I quite like the finished product.
