Fleetwood Wrecks

I first discovered the Fleetwood Wrecks a good few years ago, before I really became serious about my photography. For some reason, I’m not sure why, I haven’t really thought to go to this location again. This past week I decided to go to the Wyre Estuary, and had a lovely morning walk and photography session. I’m not that pleased with the images I took that morning, mainly as there aren’t any really interesting subjects. Maybe fresh eyes in a few weeks when I revisit the images I took might change my mind.

As I ate my lunch in the visitors centre I realised that I was only a few miles from the Fleetwood Wrecks. Surely I would get some good image!!

These wrecks are accessible by walking through a housing estate and onto the marshes, that lead down to the River Wyre. There are effectively paths marked out where folk have walked and you can see one of the in the image above.

This is the main cluster of wrecks but there are a few others dotted around on the marshes.

This is my favourite image of this shoot, with the wreck in the channel, effectively leading into the other two main wrecks. The view beyond is over towards Knott End.

It really makes me wonder whatever happened that meant these boats ended up in these exact spots. I’m sure some off the locals would know the story but unfortunately there was no-one around to ask.

It’s clear that the water level gets in and around these boats but I’m not sure how high or frequently they will be submerged by the tide.

All these images were taken on my Leica Q3 all handheld.
