Those of you that know me will also know that I’ve been going to Corfu and in particular San Stefanos, for at least 15 years now, if not longer. I love then place its a place to relax and recharge the batteries, but its also a place where I have taken some images that I’m proud of. So each visit a camera comes with me and this year I took my Sony Alpha 7IV, with my 24to 70 GM II lens, a bit heavy but I carried in my backpack so wasn’t bad at all.
I have lots of images of the sunset from the hotel we stay in but this year I thought I’d look for an alternative version of the sunset. Whilst I took sunset images from various places in and the village I got really excited when spaces came up on the trip to Afionas, which is a village in the hills above Agios Geogios, a lovely place in its own right.
The trip was essentially a taxi service up to the village, but it’s worth it as Angelos the driver (who ive known for years) drops you off right in the heart of the village. I’ve been before but that was in daylight hours before, and was looking forward to capturing a decent image, that maybe would be good enough to print and frame.
The two images are taken from the terrace at a taverna could 3 Brothers, in the centre of the village. The tables are mainly outside on the terrace and we were lucky to get a table with a view.

This is the first of two images that I really like. The sun is behind the cloud bank, but that adds to the colour of the sky and whilst the foreground isn’t very interesting, it does act as a sort of frame for the rest of the image. The islands you can see in the background are Mathraki and Othoni, and star in most of the sunset images taken in this area, at this time of year.

This is the image that I’m most proud of, I love the colours across the whole image. The framing is just right with the sun reflecting off the sea, but pointing directly at the gap in the tress having just missed the edge of the rocky outcrop. This is taken at f22, to attempt to get the sunstar effect, which I think has been achieved here, albeit slightly muted.
Both these images are at 50mm focal length and whilst being handheld shots I was able to balance the camera on the handrail of the terrace to get added stability.
I like these images so much that I have already arranged for them to be printed at a fairly decent size and will get both of them framed and they will hang on my office wall, with the other images i’m proud of. It will be interesting to see what feedback I get from Chris my coach as I have submitted these as part of my weekly update. I’ll keep you all posted.
