Cheesden Valley Revisited

I found a new group on Facebook, I guess these things are all about machine learning, and FB matching what it thinks I’ve been looking at with other similar things it thinks I might like. Well in this case it came up trumps, I do like this little valley and so I decided to explore a little further. The car parking spot I found was near Old Betts Pub on the Edenfield to Rochdale Road, adjacent to Ashmoor Reservoir (A680).

You will recall that one of my 12 Significant Photo’s locations is Cheesden Valley, and given that it isn’t too far away I decided to explore once again. The images you see here are all hand held, with my Alpha 7IV, with the Sony 16 to 35mm f 4 G lens.

The Old Mill from above.

There are a few ways to get down to the Old Mill, and whilst I did enter from the other end of the valley, I walked back to my car following this route. It gives a differing perspective on the Old Mill. This images gives you a sense of what else is around the Old Mill.

Looking down the Valley from just off the main road.

As I walked down the steps off the A680, there are a number of manmade items that )I guess) are designed to help with water flow through the valley. To the left of this fence is an overspill that guides water down into the brook in the valley. I was struck by the contours of the valley as it meandered down.

The waterfall running through the Old Mill.

I’ve photographed this waterfall previously, but I was able to get across the brook this time as the water flow wasn’t so great. Can you spot the naked lady in the downpour? It’s a local legend……… apparently.

One of the Wind Turbines around Ashworth Moor Reservoir.

I have a strange fascination with wind turbines, there should be more generating electricity in my view. There are quite a lot of them in this location and the image above struck me as I walked around the reservoir on my route back to the car, via the coffee van!!
