Castlefield Viaduct (The National Trust)

I asked google what National trust properties were near me, and the listing had The Castlefield Viaduct on it. I had no idea what that was and a quick read of the thumbnail told me it was nature reclaiming an old railway viaduct.

So that was logged in the memory for another day. Well that “another day” turned out to be today. We seem to be in a cycle of good day and then a few bad days, weather wise. The weather apps said today would at least be rain free. So decision made out I went.

This morning it was the nature trail (see next blog) and this afternoon it was a tram ride to visit the Castlefield Viaduct.

It’s situated through a car park next to the Deansgate Castlefield tram stop. that’s maybe 20 minutes on the tram from Parrswood. I was in that neighbourhood as I was on the Mersey Vale Nature trail with Luna 🦮 in the morning.

The viaduct itself is a huge metal structure that carried the railway above some of the streets into Manchester city centre. The National Trust are allowing nature to “reclaim” the viaduct. You can get a sense of this from the images below.

All these images are taken on my Xpro1 with the 23mm f2 lens all hand held, using the Astis Soft film simulation.

I hope you like.
