Another Location Found – 12 Significant Images Project

At last we are able to get out and about, and my first location scouts have all been into The Peak District. No surprise there I guess. I’ve visited various locations over the last few years but keep getting drawn back to Curber Edge. Not sure why, I love the place. Last summer I sat on the top of the edge here for 2 glorious hours, soaking up the summer sun and the fabulous views.

My latest walk onto the edge made me realise that I should include an image from this location in my 12 Significant Images Project. Tracey and I had walked up onto the edge and I found myself looking back over towards Chatsworth House. Each time I stepped onto another section of the edge I came to look back towards the Chatsworth Estate, and what caught my eye was the rock in the image below.

I really feel there is a huge amount of potential at this location. There’s the obvious “stuck up” outcrop of rock, this is eye catching on its own. There is also sections of the edge that help move the eye along through the image. Theres also the cracking view out over towards the Chatsworth Estate. In this particular image there is a cloudy sky, it was quite cold and threatened rain as we stood looking. You can image what this image would look like if it had a pink sky.

Maybe this location would look perfect in the winter, angry skies, frost on the stones and even on the grass and rocks along the edge. What would work well is a good dose of mist rolling in and around the valley below. Nots sure this is quite high enough for a cloud inversion, let’s see how this develops. The composition does need work I accept that but given I was out walking and this is a quick hand held image I’m happy that with some work the composition can improve. Add in the unpredictable weather and I think this will be a good addition to the location list for my 12 significant images project.
