I’ve been researching recently, and I guess experimenting, with trying to find a more muted colour palette for my images. You might say retro even, although it’s hard for me ro talk about the filmic look, as I have no real comprehension of what the different film stocks did or made the images look like. A familiar refrain of the past few months is of time to get out with the camera. I’ve adopted a more local approach of late and looked to capture images near where I (and Tracey) ,ive rather than worrying about honeypot locations. They will come in due course.
I have traded in my Sony A6600 for a Fujifilm XT-5, and have also invested in a Fuji X100V. I still have my main Sony camera and lenses and wont change these, but my walk around kit will now be either of the two Fuji cameras. Both have excellent image quality and both have Fuji film simulations built into them. It seemed an obvious move to me.
So while out walking with Charlie (the cocker spaniel) I took the images below with the X100V. It’s the post processing that im more interested in wit these images but nonetheless these are interesting images.

This was about lines as I stood at this spot. I soon realised that a shallow depth of field would help with this image. I’ve added no saturation or vibrancy in post processing, but have added the usual sharpening and other basic work flow.

I really have no idea what this is, or how the hell it would get here. It;s an interesting image nonetheless.

What you looking at!!!

A public right of way runs through this farm, and this scene caught my eye. I like that you can see straight through the barm at the back and that the stone walls drive your eye through the image. I do like the muted tones in this image.

More lines!

Views of Walmersley Golf Club through a very wonky gate.

I love a stone wall.

Twisty tree branches.

M66 underpass.
I will be trying alternative images throughout the coming months, so stay tuned for those.
The Fuji XT-5 will also feature heavily in the coming months but I need to think through the use case for this camera, as both my walk around camera but it also has a high resolution 40 mega-pixel sensor. It’s likely that these will all be handheld images but it also has IBIS, which really helps.
