A Fabulous Day at Rivington

We have had so much rain this past few weeks that it was welcome relief that Saturday was forecast to be a lovely day, and that’s exactly how it turned out. You will recall that I visited this area previously but on that occasion it rained so hard, I got soaking just walking across a road. I decided that this weeks walk should be around the Rivington area. It really is lovely here.

There is such a lot to see here, gardens, old buildings, towers, there’s even a castle, but we decided that we would walk up to the Pike first through the terraced gardens.

The walk up to the Pike is really made quite easy because of the variety of things to look at along the way. We spotted the steps and archway half way up, but there are so many things to look at, it really is a great walk up. This image has strong leading lines up to a main subject and has great colours and textures both in the stone steps and the foliage around the steps.

As we approached the area we could clearly see that there was snow on the Pike but as we ascended the snow hadn’t really settled everywhere. I think you’ll agree though that the snow in the foreground here is a lovely, along with the nice light on the leaves and branches. There are some grand vistas on all sides from here and this image gives you a sense of the views on offer.

There are quite a few steps leading up to the tower on the top of the Pike and there were a good few people around so we decided whilst it’s a fabulous view that we would move on quickly to avoid the people around the tower. As we walked back down the steps I spotted the tower that comes later, so we decided to head that way. On route we came across this next image. It clearly is the remains of a wall of some description but I was struck by the symmetry of the shapes both in the wall and on top.

The Pigeon Tower, is an impressive structure and can be seen from miles around. I’m really pleased with this image as I’ve been able to capture a significant amount of detail of the building and its construct as well setting within which it sits. I love this building and this will feature again in future shoots.

In addition to what we had seen already we decided to walk around the reservoirs, and there are quite a few here to explore. We had a lovely coffee and snack from the Hall Barn Café and decided after a lovely chat to explore the reservoirs. There is lots here to. A zip wire, which as it turned out is one of many along with tree walks and other daredevil activities that gave me the shakes just watching the folk navigate their way across and around.

It was such a lovely day at this point, blue skies, sun but was still a little chilly. Its easy to forget when exploring this area that it is actually a series of reservoirs that provide water for the surrounding areas and beyond. The last image is a reminder of that. Again strong leading lines but lovely colours.  I say it a lot on my blog but I will definitely be back to explore this place again. A splendid day.
